Cotton & Sustainability
Cotton has been around for much longer than you might think. The cotton plant is an ancient one. The first cotton was grown in the Indian subcontinent in 3000 BC. It was grown in other civilizations like ancient Egyptians and Greeks as well as others throughout Asia and the Middle East. Today cotton is grown across the globe in countries lile India, China, USA, Brazil, Turkey, Greece and Australia, amongst others.
Cotton is a soft, absorbent material that grows on a shrub-like plant. Cotton plants have been around for centuries and are known for their longevity. The fibre comes from the cotton boll, which is actually the fruit of the cotton plant. When the fruit is mature, it opens to reveal white, fluffy fibres attached to a seed pod.
Cotton is everywhere—in your clothes, in your bed sheets and towels, and of course in all cotton products- pads, balls, buds, pleats and rolls used by women for themselves, their babies and general purposes around the home.
The good news is that by using cotton textiles and products, you are being kind to the planet as the cotton plant is drought and heat-tolerant. It does NOT require excessive amounts of water. Furthermore, it uses very little pesticides to grow.
With cotton as the raw material of our products, it makes our products sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable, making it an excellent choice for environmentally-friendly products.
